Anderson and Musquin earn a 4th and 5th place finish at Glendale supercross
The 4th round of the AMA Supercross Series took place last weekend at the Arizona’s University of Phoenix Stadium, where a massive track has been built on the floor of the venue, featuring long rhythm lanes with lots of technical obstacles and a wide-open start right away - meaning very high speeds!
January, 27th 2018, Glendale UoPS - Phoenix, AZ- Jason Anderson had to deal with his toughest test yet, as he had to face big challenges in the Main Event: he had to dig deep to get his 4th place finish. His excellent riding skills though helped him containing a couple of smudges that costed the third step of the podium, but got him carrying the red plate and a 9 point lead.
Anderson dominated the charts in both sessions of timed qualifying, with a 55.709 lap time - the fastest lap that the Rockstar Energy Racing Husqvarna rider did in the last session. Feeling confident, he pulled the holeshot in the heat, pulled away, and then took another heat win. Right from the beginning of the 450 Main Event he immediately started battling near the front line, but was caught up in the middle of pack of riders and got back a few spots. He bounced back and began whirling around riders with 7 minutes and 2 laps left of race. Putting in an amazing charge, he set the fastest lap of the race and closed his day with an impressive 4th finish.
Jason Anderson “My practices were great today, I was able to figure everything out. I got pretty set up and was good for the night show. I qualified 1st in practice and was able to get another heat race win. I started out great in the Main but got shuffled back to around 7th but then worked my way back to 4th. I just need to keep the ball rolling."
Marvin Musquin continued to battle back from his shoulder injury back in Houston, as he earned a top-5 finish at the 4th step of the AMA Supercross Championship. Musquin, still rehabbing from his early season sprain, had a moderate start in the 450SX heat one race with a 6th place. Despite it all, he put up an unfaltering performance that secured him a transfer right into the Main Event.
In the 450SX Main Event, Musquin got off to a top-10 start on the first lap but he quickly hiked his way up to the 5th place, where he got through the first half of the race.
Despite his stepbacks, Marvin managed to finish strong, keeping his top-5 position throughout all the laps of the Main Event, closing up as 5th.
Musquin: “Given the last few weeks and all the rehab work I've put in to strengthen my shoulder, I'm happy with 5th place tonight. I was able to get a reasonable start around 8th and just tried to put in solid laps until the end. I’m happy to make good gains this week and I look forward to building from here.”
Let’s catch up in Oakland next weekend!
