Interview with Danilo Petrucci
1. You're one of the few to have raced in both MotoGP and rallying: what drives you to always challenge yourself?
I like to ride any type of motorbike, since I was little I liked both the track and off-road so over the years I have always tried to train to be fast with all types of motorbikes
2. When you take off your helmet, who is Danilo in everyday life?
In everyday life, Danilo tries to be a normal boy. I try to spend as much time as possible with the people I love. I don't like being the center of attention, but rather I like being with my friends because they treat me like the Danilo friend from school.
3. Was there a moment when you really thought about giving it all up?
Yes, there was a moment when I couldn't take it anymore, but then an injury made me realize how much I missed riding a motorbike, so then I rediscovered that joy in racing.
4. How important is the mind, compared to talent, in a driver who faces such different challenges?
The mind counts a lot, because in sport there are more difficult moments than good ones, so it is important to have a great spirit of sacrifice and I want to get involved and learn from the best.
5. Is there a memory or person who has influenced your journey into the world of motorcycles?
My father and my entire family, including my mother and brother, have certainly sacrificed a lot to help me run since I was little. We gave up many things to let me pursue my dream.
6. When you face extreme situations, what gives you confidence?
Confidence in myself is what pushes me to do more, I always think that in sport you lose many more times than you win, but the awareness of giving everything is what makes me feel good.
7. What's the strongest feeling a motorbike gives you, the one that keeps you coming back?
The strongest sensation that the motorbike gives me is speed and above all every time I get on the motorbike I experience sensations that seem different every time, as if each time it were the first time
8. Do you consider yourself more instinctive or strategic when you run?
As a child I was much more instinctive but then as I grew up I started to think, especially because the races have always become longer and therefore I have to think a lot when I run about the best thing to do at that particular moment.
9. What does wearing an Airoh helmet mean to you?
For me, wearing an Airoh helmet means satisfaction, because Airoh is a historic brand that the best riders wear, so becoming part of this group made me proud.
10. If you had to describe your career in one word, what would it be and why?
Unique, because I think there is no rider who starting from trials through cross has arrived to win in MotoGP superbike and at the Dakar
