Interview with Jeffrey Herlings
1. You're known for your incredible speed: what feeling do you get every time you hit the track?
I try to improve it every time, of course a trip is only a small part, but I try to do my best every time.
2. Is there a ritual or superstition you follow before a race?
No, nothing at all.
3. After all your successes, what still motivates you to give your best today?
Trying and winning motivates me a lot. I always try to improve, and that motivates me a lot. Just giving my best.
4. Have you ever felt fear while driving? How do you deal with it?
Sometimes after injuries, but now not at all.
5. How important is your connection with your motorbike?
I think it's very important, you and the bike are like a team, you have to give your best, so it's important to spend a lot of time on the bike.
6. You are known for your extreme determination: where does this strength come from?
From my desire to win
7. What was your hardest and most emotional victory?
Arnhem 2025 was difficult, while Valkenswaard 2010 was the most exciting because it was the first.
8. When you think about the future, what do you imagine after your racing career?
I don't see myself in the paddock regularly anymore, maybe I'll come and watch a race every now and then since I'm a big fan of this sport, plans might change when the time comes, but this is my feeling today.
9. What does an Airoh helmet convey to you when you wear it on the starting line?
I feel safe with the Airoh helmet, I've been using it since 2010 and I've always felt safe wearing it.
10. If you had to give advice to a young driver who dreams of participating in the world championship, what would it be?
Never give up on your dreams: for me too it all started as a dream, and now I am one of the most successful riders in MXGP, with the most GP and motorcycle victories and 5 world titles.
